Gloriously Messed-up Chapter 23 Page 2

"Annie, I heard what happened!" Connie started excitedly, "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," Annie said, "I just had a few things stolen, that's all."

Connie straightened her back boldly. "You weren't able to stay awake. I should have followed you home."

"Did the police talk to you?" Annie asked.

"Yes," Connie replied while Sabine nodded.

"I really hope they catch that robber soon," Annie said.

Connie leaned closer. "Annie, are you really okay? Do you really feel fine?"

"Yes, I'm really, really okay," Annie assured her.

"O-kay..." Connie uttered doubtfully. After a pause, she asked, "Are you coming with us?"

"Sorry," Annie declined, "I lost my student ID too. I should report it first before I join the festival."

After waving her friends off, Annie went to the school office. After reporting the lost of her ID, she was given a temporary replacement, which she placed into her white handbag.

It was an old handbag and its leather had cracks. That was the replacement for her favorite pink handbag. She loved that pink handbag. It was just the right size and had a little style to it. After what had happened, she definitely did not want to risk losing the black leather handbag too so she opted for that old white one that she had found in the back of her cupboard.

Now which club should Annie visit first? She should make her way to the History Society and visit Jill. And see the clubs on the way, those that caught her attention.

The first classroom she came across, at a glance, was devoid of decoration, with a few boys chatting in front of a bulletin board covered with texts. It was so unattractive that Annie did not even bother to check which club was responsible. There was nothing of interest.

The next classroom was much more interesting. The pretty dresses and the rack of shoes on display at the front and rear entrances immediately caught Annie's attention. A quick peek at the banner above revealed that it was the Sewing Club. It was worth taking a look inside.

While most of the club members were girls, there were also a few boys. A black-haired boy wearing spectacles introduced himself to her as Joe. He claimed to be on the club's committee. That tape measure he hung around his neck made him appear more like a common tailor than the fashion designer that he aspired to be.

The dresses he had shown Annie were too ostentatious for her taste. The first had way too many feathers round the collar and cuffs, though the designer had the sense to work with deep purple so it was still presentable. The second dress would have been cute if it were not for the four rows of pink laces round the skirt and even more on the sleeves.

"You should join the club," Joe said at the end of his tour, "We could use someone to model for children's clothing."

Okay, comparing her with an immature little child was a big no-no with Annie.

Annie forced on a smile and indicated the shoes on display. "Does your club make shoes too?"

"Oh, no," Joe confessed with a self-satisfied grin, "We put those there to attract attention. Girls can't resist good shoes."

That much was true and it did get Annie's attention initially. However, her interest was rapidly dissipating away, fleeing out through the doors and windows of the room and Annie longed to follow after them. So she thanked Joe for his time and left as politely as she could. She rolled her eyes up once she was out of the room.
