Gloriously Messed-up Chapter 10 Page 3

Annie was still surly at dinnertime with Sis, especially since they were sharing the table with Ken and the two boys - Dill the older brother and Bob the friend. And the three teenagers were using their sweetest words to persuade Annie to babysit Ken for the night.

"Just for one night," Dill had said with his sweetest charm, "It's easy. Ken is such a good boy, right, Ken?"

"No!" Annie said resolutely before the boy could reply. She found her food tasteless, though in her mind she knew it was good and professionally cooked. Ken was, however, enjoying his meal and was ignoring the conversation.

The boys tried bribing her with money, which was of no interest to her. Carrie pointed out that Annie was rich, especially since she had not bought anything during their morning shopping spree.

Then they tried chocolate and sweets. Annie pointed out that she could afford her own, if she wanted them.

Second Sis suggested that Annie could study while babysitting, to which Annie replied, "I won't be able to concentrate. And I'd rather spend the night with you."

After that Second Sis tried convincing her that it would be fun.

"Fun? Fun!?" Annie barely kept her voice in check. "My head still hurts from this afternoon!"

She wished she could complain to her other sister. Big Sis would listen and sympathize.

"Well, what do you want?" an exasperated Bob finally asked.

Annie looked him straight in the eye and announced, "Nothing!"

That last exchange, however, had Carrie thinking. Then she leaned close and whispered into Annie's ear, "I'll promise not to make an issue about your naked habit."

The younger sister slowly turned to her blond sister. "Forever and ever?"

"For a month," Second Sis said.

"No, forever and ever or no deal."

"Three months?" Second Sis bargained.

"No, forever."

"Six months?"

"Forever!" Okay, Annie needed to dial down her voice a little.

"What are you offering her?" Dill asked curiously.

Carrie interrupted her sister's reply by clamping her hand over Annie's mouth. "Sisters' secret!" She winked at them.

"Is forever really bad?" Bob asked.

"Maybe not." Carrie pondered on the idea. "I'm not going to live in the same house as her for the rest of my life..." She turned back to Annie. "Okay, forever."

"Deal," Annie agreed. She briefly wondered if Second Sis would still keep her promise when they were both in their sixties and she came over to visit.
