"We're here, in a four-star hotel, enjoying the comforts of luxury without having to pay," Second Sis began as she towered over Annie, "and you are studying!?"
It was Friday night and the sisters were at the hotel where Marie had her Housekeeping Exercise. It was after dinner and Annie was seated at the desk of their shared hotel room, with her textbooks open and holding a pen to a notepad. "Um, yeah. I've got this paper to write."
"Stop that right now," Second Sis ordered, "You and me are going to have some fun."
"Do I have to?" Annie asked.
Carrie drew herself up to her full height. "This is supposed to be a vacation and we're having some fun!" she commanded.
Second Sis would definitely resort to violence if Annie were to put up any further resistance. Also, this was supposed to be time spent with her sister. "Okay," Annie relented. She bookmarked her textbooks and put her stationery away.
Carrie immediately flashed a delighted smile. "See, that's not so bad."
"So what are going to do?"
"Let's have a slumber party, just you and me."
"Okay..." Annie fished her pajamas from her travel bag and started to pull off her sweater and shirt.
"Whoa! Not here!" Carrie stopped her.
"What?"
"Don't change here."
Annie groaned. "How ever do you survive changing for gym?"
"Girls in school still wear their undies in the changing room. So unless you're going to wear undies under your jammies"- Second Sis folded her arms -"you are not stripping in front of me."
"Fine," Annie exclaimed with an irritated sigh. She went to change in the bathroom.
Of course, Second Sis waited for her turn before using the bathroom to change. "Can't have you walking in on me," she had said.
Annie rolled her eyes up in exasperation.
"Let's call for some snacks," Carrie suggested as she held up a snack coupon.
When the sisters had first arrived at the hotel, they had registered themselves with the student on duty at reception and had been given a welcome kit. The kit had been packed with coupons for free snacks and meals along with a leaflet describing what the weekend exercise was about and how they should participate.
"Okay," Annie agreed to her sister's suggestion.
Second Sis made a call on the hotel phone. Then she insisted that they put on bathrobes before the food arrived.
Ugh, the extend to which Second Sis would go to preserve modesty! Then again, it was a little cold in the room.
The chocolates, cookies and milk were delivered by a young man, probably one of Big Sis' classmates. He had a makeshift name tag that read 'Hi, my name is Adam' and he gave a warm smile that was directed more towards the older sister. Carrie was still staring after the spiky-haired man after he had left. It was worth noting that she was biting her lower lip.
"So..." Second Sis began when she finally tore her eyes away from the door. She turned to Annie with a predatory stare. "Do you have any boys you're interested in?"
"What? No!" Annie denied, "I'm still studying."
"How boring," Second Sis commented as she sat down on one of the beds with a butter cookie in her hand, "Surely there must be boys in your classroom." She took a bite of the cookie, clumsily scattering crumbs onto her bathrobe and on the bed.
"Second Sis, could it be that you want to talk about boys in your life?" Annie guessed.
"Well, if you insist... there's this Darren..." And she went on and on about how dreamy he was, about how cute his blond locks are and his charming voice, and his skill in basketball, and his this, and his that, and his... toenails!?
Annie briefly wondered if she could sneak a read of her textbook as Second Sis continued singing her praise of that boy. "I think you'd rather have this Darren here than me," she remarked when Second Sis paused for breath.
"Not true. I want to spend time with you." Second Sis bit her lower lip. "Of course, Mum and Dad wouldn't approve Darren and me being together alone in a hotel room. And I'm sure Marie's keeping an eye from a distance. But yeah, if it's possible, I'd kick you out for time with him."
"Well, sorry for being such bad company," Annie said with mock gloom.
