Buddy Rush: Raid Mode, Jinie

Update 20 February 2012: This article is unlikely to be updated now that I have gotten all the items I wanted from this raid and I am too lazy to complete the Philosopher's stone Set a second time.

Jinie is the second raid boss introduced in Update 1.3. His raid is available to characters at level 78.

Update 13 December 2012:
Just a note to say that the mini-wave update 1.7.2 on 30 October 2012 did not change anything about Jinie, who can breathe a sigh of relief.

Can he really see with those sparkly eyes?
The raid takes place in an arena with the Tresed theme. At the edges of the arena are the same marble torches that are present in the previous raids. (I wonder if there is a reason for that. Something to indicate that it is a raid arena, perhaps?)

The gems are back, along with the mistake-forgiving 'Wake up!! Buddy!' gem. The gems appear at any of the four slots - there is one slot at each corner of the arena. Picking up a gem may give any of the following bonus or penalty:
* Attack up
*
Defense up
*
Defense Down
*
Speed Down
*
HP Regen
*
MP Regen
*
Wake up!! Buddy! (Revives KOed characters)

There are no pillars/totems in this raid. Maybe because they think it will be unfair to Jinie. The raid boss this time is immobile and cannot activate pillars (or be lured into an activated one).
Rush Jinie for wishes!
Jinie is a range boss. He is immobile and can only appear at one of the four lamps. There is one lamp at the middle of each side of the arena. After some time of fighting Jinie, he will disappear and reappear later at the same or another lamp.

Jinie is not really that tough. It is just a very long fight with his 3.5M HP.
Five-way Spear of Light attack! (Not really!)
Jinie's regular attack is a range double-attack that may cause Stun. However, he has trouble hitting targets at point-blank range, so get in close.

Jinie has two special attacks. His spin attack does little damage to buddies around him. His second attack is a targeted one (watch for the crosshair) where he throws a trio of magic missiles at the ground. This attack does area effect damage and may cause Stun. The damage is considerable, especially if a buddy is caught in the area of two of the missiles.
Where is he aiming!?
However, the most dangerous attack in the raid does not come from Jinie.
Hot hot hot!
After Jinie disappears 2, sometimes 3, times, a fire statue appears in the middle of the arena and starts spitting fire in four directions. Explorers of Oriac will know how dangerous these statues are. However, not only does this particular statue in this raid fire in four directions, it is also indestructible.

Stay away from the center when Jinie disappears to avoid having a statue spawn and start spitting fire right in a buddy's face. Run to one of the four gem-dispensing slots as the statue always aims in the direction of the lamps initially.

The statue rotates 90 degrees in either of the two directions before disappearing. Use this fact to move the party accordingly to end on a slot with a gem so you can pick one up before facing Jinie when he reappears again.
Oblin struck by an invisible slap.
The extras in this raid that spawn regularly from the two entryways at the rear corners of the arena are Oblin archers. The damage they cause is considerable to buddies with low Def. And the fact that their attacks are at range makes it less likely that they will cluster close together or with Jinie to be hit by area effect skills. Oh, and they may cause Stun too.

However, the Oblin archers are classed as regular targets, so Boorseye's 'One Shot One Kill' will deal massive damage to them.
A gem next to the Oblin spawning entryway.
Mobility is important in this raid, mainly to search for and move towards Jinie's new location, and also to dodge the fire from that statue in the middle. As such, I usually bring along Healury instead of Vivich for HP-maintenance.

If Boorseye is the main character, he can hunt extras for orbs and stop them from harming the party.

Update 5 September 2011:
Skully is also good as the main character. She can be brought close to Jinie to evade his regular attacks while increasing the number of her shots that hit when using Spiral Shots.

In addition to that, Hand Bomb can be used to take out an extra while damaging Jinie. Just move Skully next to Jinie and target the extra. Hand Bomb will damage Jinie on launch and hit the extra on impact.
Time is running out and we're stuck waiting here!
For those who scrolled to the bottom of this article just to see the loot:
Not too bad, except that I already have one.
Update 27 December 2011:
The chests dropped by Oblins during the raid has started giving Level 93 character equips. The Raid reward is still bad as ever, though (Sandglass of Ice (blue) -_-!).

  1. Do you know of any non-set PU items that drop from Jinie? I wasn't sure if they kept he Philosopher's set going from Tiger.

  2. No. All PU items are set items, if I'm not mistaken.

Rumor has it that the Philosopher's Green and Gold stones can be obtained from Jinie.

  3. OK. Thanks for the heads up. I don't know anyone that has killed Jinie enough to know either.

    1. In Buddy Rush, each major update is called a wave. For example, the Ninth Wave means the eighth major update or version 1.8.0 (the 'First Wave' is the originally released Buddy Rush).

I included that information since updates may change the loot.
