Mabel
slipped next to George. "So... what about the part where you
wanted to keep that hidden?" she whispered as she pointed a
finger at his chest.
George
realized that his feminine armor was exposed. He quickly wrapped
himself in his coat again. Well, it was her fault for making him beat
the flames earlier! Oh nuts, whatever hidden cameras that were there
were certain to have noted his armor!
Iona sat
up and pouted. Some of the purple fur on her outfit had blackened
spots on them. "That wasn't nice!"
"My
armor can withstand darts and fire," Tricia mentioned.
"We
don't know what else is out there," Mabel pointed out, "We
should trigger a few more with something."
Tricia
looked around until her gaze fell on the ceramic sink that had fallen
on Iona earlier. She gripped the faucet with a mechanical claw and
broke it off. "Take cover while I toss this."
The rest
of the party crouched at the stairs, peeking over the tip of the
floor.
Tricia
tossed the faucet onto the tiles. It bounced on a black one, then hit
a white and slid onto another black.
A volley
of arrows landed on the first black tile. A grenade popped up from
beneath the white one. Then a heavy block fell from the ceiling onto
the second black tile just as the grenade exploded.
"Okay,
there may be some traps that my armor can't handle," Tricia
admitted.
"We
should have brought Laura," Mabel said, "She could disable
all these in an instant."
"I
wish I learned to fly," Iona added.
"Do
the traps reset?" George asked, "If not, we could set them
all off."
Tricia
glanced at him. "Good idea." She then turned to the sink.
"We can smash this into small pieces to throw."
"Allow
me," Iona said. Sharp claws sprang from her paws. "Tubby
and I have unresolved issues."
Iona's
claws were not ordinary it appeared. The claws easily sliced the tub
into cubes. It made horrible scratching noises, though. George winced and wished
he could cover his ears with his hands but his helmet and mask
prevented that.
"Okay,
take cover again," Tricia said as she picked up a block of
ceramic.
That
time, Tricia joined them at the stairs. She chucked her piece of
ceramic before ducking below the edge of the floor.
There
was a 'shing' and when they looked up, they saw that a buzz saw was
embedded into a white tile. Mabel reached for another piece.
"I
say the next one will go boom!" said Iona.
"I
say its darts!" said Mabel.
"Fire,"
said Tricia.
The
Vixens turned to George. "Well, um, water?"
Mabel
chuckled as she tossed the ceramic.
It was a
BOOM. A big one.
"Poison
next!" Iona announced her choice.
They
passed the time guessing what would trigger after each piece of
ceramic was lobbed. There were explosions, sharp and heavy things
flying or falling, fire and smoke.
There
was a beep on Mabel's wrist. The Vixen passed her cube of ceramic to
Tricia and slid a piece of armor aside to reveal her wrist
communicator. With the touch of a button, she connected the incoming
call to her helmet. "Hello?" After a moment, she asked,
"Mum? What are you doing calling me here?"
