Road Of Fury (distance, shooter)

Distance genre in Flash games are those that has the player traveling straight in a certain direction. The further the player travels, the more the player is rewarded (directly or indirectly). With the reward, the player may purchase upgrades to help increase the distance the player travels in subsequent tries.

Road Of Fury, by Iriysoft, combines the distance genre with a shooter.
There is an opening screen!
The player controls a convoy of vehicles traveling on a wasteland highway. Along the way, nice targets pop in for the player to shoot at (the player aims with the mouse) so the road trip isn't boring. To spice things up, said targets will be able to harm the convoy.

Certain targets, as expected, have more durability than others. And certain targets may do more damage than others. Thus, it is up to the player to prioritize the targets to attack.
There are guided ballistic missiles!
When choosing targets, another factor of consideration is that the weapons of the convoy vehicles take time to turn (the lead vehicle's weapon suffers more from this). Because of this, reaching back to hit the target just above the convoy will consume considerable time away from the targets on the road ahead.
There are gunships!
Outside of the action, in the garage, the player has access to a variety of vehicles, from cars to buses and rigs (Wikipedia calls the latter tractor units). Up to three of these vehicles may be selected for the player's convoys. That is, once the vehicle has been bought with money earned from the game.
There are different vehicles to choose!
Different vehicles have different main weapons and special abilities. Larger vehicles tend to have more durability and cost more. The weapons, abilities and durability of the vehicles may be upgraded, again with money.

As mentioned, different vehicles have different special abilities. These abilities may be actively activated or passive. Active abilities allow the player to call in additional fire support or hinder the targets. Passive abilities periodically activate to repair a convoy vehicle or attack a target, with the exception of the Energy Shield, which absorbs additional damage.
There are explosions!
In summary, Road of Fury combines the shooter genre with the distance genre. Introducing the shooter removes the weakness of the distance (which is the part where the player gets bored while waiting for the distance result). In addition, having a variety of vehicles allow different setups. It is interesting to see how different weapons and abilities work, and to see if they are enough to complete the game.
There is an iron.
