Gloriously Messed-up Chapter 17 Page 1

"And in that carnival scene, I can't believe all the places she was changing," Jill ranted on, "I mean, if I'm a girl pretending to be a boy, I'd change where there's no one who'd notice."

"Yeah, I think I'd notice if the guy who went in the toilet in front of me came out a girl," Annie agreed. She smiled. "It was funny though."

The two girls were recounting the events of the movie in the corridor outside the cinema hall. They were waiting for the older girls, who were on their obligatory post-viewing trip to the washroom. Tall Ursula was the first to emerge.

"You girls are quick," the ebony-skinned girl commented.

"We went during the show," Annie explained.

Ursula stood next to Annie. "Oh, so you missed some of it."

Annie looked up to the taller girl. "Yeah but we just told each other the parts we missed."

"You're pretty quick yourself," Jill said.

Ursula grinned. "Ran in straight after the show. Was first."

It was quite a while before Carrie emerged. "Long queue," she said, "Really long queue."

And it was another two minutes before Julia joined them.

"Jul, how much of a load did you have to drop off?" Carrie teased.

"Oh, very funny," Julia sneered, "You saw the madhouse in there."

As they walked towards the main entrance of the cinema, Jill pondered, "So the show is about a girl pretending to be a guy... Ever wondered if one of us is not who we appear to be?"

Carrie gave her younger sister a hard look.

"You think I'm a boy?" Annie asked in a low tone.

"No, no," Carrie denied, "You've proven a few times you're a girl."

"How?" questioned Julia as she stepped onto the walkway outside, "Has our prudish Carrie actually seen her little sister naked?"

Carrie's jaw dropped. She slapped the back of her friend's shoulder. "What kind of a question is that!?"

"Best not to talk about that," Annie advised, "It's a no-no subject with Sis. Just assume the answer you know to be correct."

Carrie spun to face her sister. "They're just going to assume the worst!"

"Of course we are," Julia agreed, "But this way, we have the answer and you don't have to admit it."

"We could just ask Annie, you know," Jill pointed out.

"No!" Carrie clamped her hand over her little sister's mouth. "I hereby use my 'birthday girl card' to change the subject."

"Okay, to what?" Julia asked.

Carrie stumbled for an answer. "To... to... to deciding what to do next!"

Julia raised a finger. "On what to do next, I vote we go back to the previous subject!"

"I'm using my 'birthday girl card' to forbid any further discussion on that subject," Carrie demanded fiercely.

"That card should be pretty worn by now," Ursula observed.

Eventually, the girls had enough of teasing Carrie. They all agreed to a stroll across the street to the riverfront.
