Coffee Break Games 4

It has been a while since I posted a list of recommended coffee break games (way more than a year!). Here are a few more recommended games to play during the short few minutes away from work.

Brain Bones
Brain Bones
Brain Bones by johnhattan is an old dice game. The object of the game is to score as many points as possible by collecting pairs of the same value. In each play, the player rolls five dice. Four of them are used to form two pairs while the last will be discarded.

For each pair, its total is matched to the corresponding row on the score sheet. The first time a pair is added to a row, four skulls will be placed on that row. As long as there are skulls, the score for that row is -100. Each time a matching pair is added, a skull is removed. Once all the skulls are removed, the row will start generating positive points based on its valule.

After each throw, the extra fifth die is discarded. The die is dropped into one of four discard piles. All dice that go into a discard pile must be of the same value. Therefore, only four of six possible die values can be discarded. The game ends when a discard pile reaches its limit of 8 dice.

The fun is figuring out the best strategy to get the best score. Actually, it is a challenge to get positive score. The game is short and simple, perfect for a coffee break.

Colourshift
Colourshift
Colourshift by mrsneeze is a puzzle game. The object of the game is to connect lights to the correct color sources. The player rotates tiles to form connections from sources to lights. The difficulty increases with expanding grid sizes and different light colors. There are also dummy pieces on the grid that have no use in the solution.

The player may determine the difficulty of the puzzle by choosing various settings. The length of play depends on the difficulty (and the player's intelligence). There are options for quick puzzle selection so the player can jump right into a game quickly.

New Star Soccer
New Star Soccer
New Star Soccer by siread is a soccer game where the player plays a soccer player. Instead of having to play the whole 90 minute game, the soccer game fast-forwards to the interesting parts where the player can intercept balls, make passes to teammates or score goals. A game takes a few minutes to complete - short enough for a coffee break.

Outside of the game, the player manages the soccer player's career in a football club. It should be noted that there is a wide variety of clubs from a wide variety of countries. It is possible that most, if not all, of the soccer associations in the world at the time of the game's development is included in New Star Soccer.

This is a good chance for soccer fans to join their favorite clubs virtually. It should be noted that the player chooses a country to start with. The player then joins a random minor club. After the first year, the player may negotiate to join another club. Better clubs may require that the player have better star rating.

To help teach the gameplay, there are tutorials and question-mark buttons that summon helpful notes. There is a version for the iPhone and iPad too.

That is it for this collection of coffee break games. Do remember to stop when the time comes to return to work.
