Buddy Rush: The Ninth Wave

The Ninth Wave was released today.

The first big change: the download screen now reports the size of the game!
Now we know the size of this game!
Ten years ago, this download would have taken forever.

Anyway, I thought that I would take the opportunity to get a few Prologue screenshots.
"Yay, I'm the boss!"
Unfortunately, the game promptly hung on the following screen:
"Just a moment while I read the manual on Greedy shot."
After reloading the game, I finally caught the screenshot I wanted:
"Umm...I walked?"
The major change in the Ninth Wave is the skill system, which has been completely revamped.
New skill system.
Buddies now gain skill points on level up instead of mastering missions. Maximum skill level is now 7 and skills have been adjusted accordingly. Skill-point costs are now 3 for Active Skills, 2 for Passive Skills and 4 for Ultimate Skills.

Weapon accessories have been changed. Previously, they give 'Att +5%'.
New weapon accessory stats.
The shop now sells weapon accessories with better stats.
Weapons for sale.
Status screens in inventory and when examining a character now show more details.
Does not show HP Regen, MP Regen, Hit Speed and Skill CoolTime, though.
The colorful symbols are explained when clicked on.
For those too lazy to click for the legend.
Random buddies in the Buddy Square can now be hired!
...until I reload the game.
When characters use Active Skills, they now say stuff. For those who were silent before.
"It's the Oblins! Hide!"
Mission clear screens now report the bugs awarded.
I got bugs!
Missions have been rebalanced - some missions may be tougher/easier. Chapter 1 Woodarm has been removed and the other chapters have been renumbered accordingly. Missions from chapter 9 (now Evaca) onwards now cost 2 stamina to attempt.

A minor change: refining now allows another try immediately without having to return to the previous screen.
Saves a click.
More details of the changes, especially of the new skill system, can be found in the 9th wave Patch Note. Remember to turn on 'Show HP/MP bars' in the options screen.

Update 8 February 2013:
Arena now has buddies previously not available as opponents. Previously, only Worrier, Boorseye, Wizz, Aikilu, Botherella, Vivich, Nagne, Vampino, Flow and Betty Jr were available as opponents.
New Arena opponents!

    1. Still working on that. There's a lot of information to go through.

All I can say now is that Skully's Hand Bomb at level 3 fires 1 bomb; 2 bombs at level 5.

    1. The only legendary weapon I know of is this.

Unless you mean the weapon accessories, which are available in the shop.

    2. I think they were referring to weapon accessories. That was what they were showing in the video.

  3. Is there anywhere on the site that shows skill builds new or old, also what are best possible sets for each character?

    1. There are tips here and there on the skill guide articles. The set item articles, especially the Raid items, would have examples of the builds that I use. Some of the information may still be relevant after The Ninth Wave.

    3. I don't have Wizz or Chopin so I can't make any recommendations. I do have an old reference guild for Wizz but it is outdated and it is more helpful for people without Wizz.

I configure my Betty Jr and Worrier as tanks so that may give some helpful suggestions for Chopin. For Wizz, check my skill-spamming setup on Boorseye.

  5. so there's no point in mastering missions now? as in just do the mission that gives the most exp instead of mastering lower level missions for skill points?

    1. Yes, the reason to master missions now is for personal satisfaction. As for doing the mission for most experience (and bugs), do consider the duration of the mission and stamina required too.

  6. I've faced a Choppin and Jacky in arena before, just saying. And you should also note that buddies can now use the ultimate weapon and skill no matter what level they're at.
