Update 20 February 2012: This article is unlikely to be updated now that I have gotten all the items I wanted from this raid.
Update 1.3 introduced two new Raids. The first is against Armored Tiger, available to characters at level 75.
Update 7 December 2012:
The mini-wave update 1.7.2 on 30 October reduced Armored Tiger's HP to 1.0M and made the raid available to characters of level 65.
---
Armored Tiger's raid takes place in an arena with Xi Lin's theme as the setting. However, the marble torches at the arena's edges looked like they were imported from out of town.
Unlike the previous arenas there are no gems to help. That means no 'Wake up!! Buddy!' to save the player if he/she makes a bad move. The pillars/totems are still there to help the player. Activating a totem by running into it may cause:
Armored Tiger may also activate totems to do damage to the party. It is kind of unfair that the boss can bump people out of the way during the mad race for a totem.
Armored Tiger's regular attacks already do significant damage, with a chance to Stun. This can get nasty when he uses a self-buff to increase his Att. The self-buff is bad if combined with the next special move and/or the buff from the lanterns (see further below).
Armored Tiger's only offensive move is a roar where he does damage to buddies in a wide area in front of him. The move Stuns. Armored Tiger will adjust his aim up to the point he crosses his arm - dodge out of the way at that time.
His last special move is to read a book. I do not know what that does - it did not make him look any smarter.
Aside from Armored Tiger, the extras in this raid are Omurai (probably clones), with special attacks and stats higher that the Omurai in Chapter 5. They are classed as mini-bosses and as such, have immunities to certain skills.
This means that Boorseye's 'One Shot One Kill' will not do the massive damage it usually does to normal Oblins. This also means that more red and blue orbs will be released on average.
Every once in a while, lanterns (or balls, as the character in the game calls them) appear from the four holes in the arena. Each lantern gives Armored Tiger a different buff, indicated by the aura under his feet. The lantern matching the buff's color must be destroyed to remove the buff and all the lanterns. Blue lantern increases Def. Red increases Att. Green increases Evade. Yellow is unknown (my guess is Stun).
Unlike previous raid bosses (or maybe it was introduced in Update 1.3.3), Armored Tiger will relentlessly pursue one buddy at a time. This may be bad since he will KO buddies one by one instead of distributing damage over the party.
However, this may also be good depending on the buddy he selects as his target (heh, heh, heh).
Worrier and Mockery have a use! With our armored hero around, it is safer to bring more fragile buddies with higher damage potential such as Wizz.
Wizz's area effect skills can easily destroy lanterns and fry the extras. Characters with skills that do damage to a wide area, such as Nagne and his Leaf Slash, are good since they can easily destroy lanterns.
It is a good idea to lure Armored Tiger close to the target lantern. While Armored Tiger has high Evade from a lantern buff, range characters may shoot through him to hit lanterns at the back. Also, area effect skills may destroy the lantern.
If the fun of beating up Armored Tiger is not enough, there is also the loot:

2.5M HP of fun! |
Unlike the previous arenas there are no gems to help. That means no 'Wake up!! Buddy!' to save the player if he/she makes a bad move. The pillars/totems are still there to help the player. Activating a totem by running into it may cause:
* a yellow cloud that does damage to targets in a large area.
* a frost field with snowflakes that slows (Wizz's Freeze).
* an expanding white cloud effect that does damage to targets in a large area (Flow's Earthquaker).
* spinning blades (Aikilu's Blade Typoon).* an expanding white cloud effect that does damage to targets in a large area (Flow's Earthquaker).
Armored Tiger may also activate totems to do damage to the party. It is kind of unfair that the boss can bump people out of the way during the mad race for a totem.
Don't intrude into my personal space! |

Time for collateral damage! |

Secret weapon against Armored Tiger. |

hi apple, whats your analysis on the armor tiger set is gd for which character?
ReplyDeleteArmored Tiger's set has high HP, Def and HP Regen. It is best for Worrier or Betty Jr. However, it has no MP Regen, Hit Speed or critical - that's 3 weaknesses, along with its average Att, to be covered with the two remaining equip slots. So unless you've great equips to cover the set's shortcomings, it's not suitable for the other characters.
ReplyDeletehehe thanks for the info!
