Handful of Sand Chapter 33 Page 3

"Wow, we're kidnapped," Ditz exclaimed excitedly, "This is fun!"

Somehow, Sandy failed to see the logic in that.

"It's a good thing we've already finished all our chores," Ditz mentioned.

(That should be the least of their worries!)

As the car rumbled along, Sandy reached into her pocket. She felt for the monkey figurine attached to her wallet and pulled its head. Then she twisted it.

Selina would come rescue them. Might as well enjoy her ice cream until then.

"So we got the girl," the driver said. He should be called 'Stubbles' for the unshaved stubs of hair on his chin.

"Are you sure we got the right girl?" guy with the ill-kept hair asked. That one should be called Messy.

"It's the right one," Stubbles the driver said, "matches the description."

Messy, however, looked back and asked. "Hey, are you Sandra Gould?"

"No," Sandy lied.

"Huh, can't believe we got the wrong one," Messy mused, "they all look alike."

"Hey, you lied!" Ditz accused Sandy, "That's your name, isn't it?"

"Oh, so you tried to lie to us," Stubbles said as he glanced over his shoulder.

Sandy gave Ditz a dark look.

"Lying's bad," Ditz told her, "Mummy always said so."

"But they were going to let us go!"

"We've time to be kidnapped," Ditz said, "We've finished our chores."

"But we'll be late for dinner!" Sandy pointed out.

"Oh no!" Ditz exclaimed when she realized that.

(That should be the second least of their worries!)

At the front of the car, the men were just beginning to entertain themselves with a different argument.

"So we got the girl," Messy said.

"Yeah," Stubbles agreed.

"That's the hard part done."

(Actually, that was not the 'hard part'.)

"Yeah," Stubbles agreed again.

"So what do we do now?" Messy asked.

"Let's see... we're supposed to get her to sign the paper," Stubbles replied.

(Anyone who had been paying attention should have noted the truly 'hard part'.)

"Great!" Messy exclaimed. After a pause, he asked, "Where's the paper?"

"I thought you had it."

"Me!? I thought you brought it!"

And that led to the argument at the front of the car. Two sets of arguments in a shaky old car. It was a noisy drive, especially with the car complaining unheard about its age. And the radio was not even on.

"We've got to go back and get it," Stubbles said.

"Looks like it," Messy agreed.

"So, are we going to get back in time for dinner?" Ditz asked aloud.

"No, you're not," Messy turned around to say.

"But we're hungry," Ditz complained.

"Then you'll just have to go hungry," Messy told her.

Ditz's Special Technique: INCESSANT WHINING!!!

"I'll just pop by a diner or drive-in," Stubbles decided over the relentless assault of high-pitched complains from Ditz, "You go get something for us all to eat."

"Okay, okay," Messy agreed.
