Coffee Break Games 1

Coffee break games are those simple games that can be played for a few minutes while on a break from work. They tend to be short and easy, and not very addictive, so the player's real-life boss does not have to drag him or her back to work.

Here are a few games I found on Kongregate that I would recommend.

Hungry Sumo
Hungry Sumo
The screenshot does not look like much but Hungry Sumo is more fun than it looks. The player's characters are those sumos with pink loincloths, while the opposition is everyone else. The object of the game is to convert all opposing units (well, almost all, since at least one type of enemy cannot be converted).

The characters float around the playing field. Whenever a sumo bumps against one of an opposing side, they do damage to each other. The amount of damage done is based on the character's size. As damage is taken, the character gets smaller. If enough damage is taken the character is converted to the opposing side.

The only control in the game is to feed a player's sumo, which makes the sumo grow larger, by hovering the mouse cursor over the character. However, if the sumo bumps into an opposing character while feeding, that sumo is immediately converted (i.e. he is lost).

There are different levels, featuring playing fields against different types, numbers and sizes of opponents.

Here is a little funny quote from the comments section of this game:
"So I can lose weight by bumping into people? Why didn't anyone tell me this?"

Sym-a-Pix Light Vol 1
Sym-a-Pix Light Vol 1
Sym-a-Pix Light Vol 1 is a simple puzzle game. Well, simple for me. Anyway, the object of the game is to reveal a hidden picture by drawing lines.

Each dot on the game board is the center of a hidden rotationally-symmetrical shape of the dot's color. The player has to draw the outline of the shape, which, once enclosed, will turn into a shape of that color. There is only one dot for each shape and each square on the game board is part of only one shape.

The game continues until all the shapes are drawn. The shapes will then form the hidden picture, which will be revealed.

Endless Migration
Endless Migration
This game has been released some time ago. For a coffee break game, Endless Migration is a little more time consuming, more suitable if one has a really long coffee break, or a lunch break.

Endless Migration is an 'epic' survival game where the player controls a black goose, which follows the mouse cursor. The object of the game is simply to survive while scoring as many points as possible.

The basic gameplay is to gather other birds into one's flock while avoiding moving obstacles, that is, other aircraft. Not only does the black goose have to dodge aircraft, the rest of the flock has to be kept safe from flying menace. And the other birds in the flock tend to react slower to the mouse control.

There are many coffee break games for free available on the Internet. Those featured here are some of my recommendations. Enjoy your coffee break!
