Handful of Sand Interlude 2

Hello, this is Ariel here in the Narration Room and it's time for another break.

Don't you look forward to holidays?

Everyone's happy when the holidays come, even the teachers, I'm sure. After weeks of hard work, a short period of not-having-to-go-to-school is most welcome. No need to wake up early in the morning and get ready for school. Everyone can laze in bed longer, or just sit in front of the TV watching the morning cartoons. Or play games. Or go out with friends.

But then, teachers just love to give holiday assignments. A lot usually. They assign text to read, or topics to research, or worksheets to complete. By the truckload. The poor students would probably have to hire a pickup to bring their homework home.

And then parents will give more chores to do. Wash the dishes or fold the clothes. Maintain the garden. Toss the trash. Clean the house. Are there any of you out there who get the more rigorous chores? Like paint the room or fencing? Or clear out the garage? Well, the latter chore is usually during summer, when it's warm enough to lug stuff outside.

I'm sure many parents and all teachers have gone to school before. They should know how precious the holidays are! After having to slave through weeks of school, you'd think everyone would understand if you'd like to take a break.

Just because we suddenly have more free time does not mean that other people can suddenly make demands of it. It's our free time! There are things that we'd like to do, things that we've put aside during the school semester because of the lack of time. It's just like you suddenly win a lottery and everyone shows up and wants a piece of it.

Somehow kids'll just manage to find some time for a little rest here or a little play there. So, hang in there.

Anyway, there's no urgency to continue reading the rest of Handful of Sand so soon. So take a short break and go play! You'll find the rest of the story more enjoyable after you've had a rest to relax your eyes and mind.
